Sondra Shaw-Hardy

Sondra Shaw-Hardy, J.D, was described by "Town and Country" magazine as "the pioneer" in women's philanthropy. Since 1995 she has authored, coauthored, or coedited six books on philanthropy including her latest, "Women and Philanthropy: Boldly Shaping a Better World" published in September, 2010 by Wiley. Her work has been quoted in national and international media. With Martha Taylor, she cofounded the Women's Philanthropy Institute, now at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. After forming one of the first giving circles in the nation in 1999 and helping found scores of others, Sondra has been called the "mother of women's giving circles." She has spoken to thousands of women donors, financial planners, philanthropy advisors, fundraisers, and boards and was inspirational and motivational in the creation of the worldwide movement of women and philanthropy. In 2008, the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University awarded Sondra and Martha Taylor the first "Shaw-Hardy Taylor Achievement Award for Extraordinary Contributions to Moving Women's Philanthropy Forward." Sondra resides in Traverse City, Michigan and is an active volunteer and philanthropist.
